Picky Eating in Children: Looking Beyond the Plate
If you have a child who seems to live on the same limited foods, you're not alone.
Children are constantly growing, learning and adapting. From developing immune systems to changing gut bacteria, navigating new foods and experiencing childhood illnesses, there is a lot happening beneath the surface.
As a children's naturopath in Hikurangi, Whangārei, I take a holistic approach to children's health, looking at the whole picture — including nutrition, digestion, immune function, sleep, stress, lifestyle and environmental factors.
At The Chamomile Clinic, my goal is to help you understand what may be contributing to your child's symptoms and provide gentle, evidence-informed naturopathic care tailored to your child and your family's needs. I offer consultations for families in Whangārei and Northland, as well as online throughout New Zealand.

The gut plays an important role in overall wellbeing, including digestion, nutrient absorption and immune function. Signs that your child's gut may need support can include tummy aches, constipation, loose stools, bloating, food sensitivities or changes in appetite.

Frequent coughs, colds and respiratory infections are common in childhood, but ongoing symptoms can be exhausting for both children and parents. Supporting immune resilience involves looking at nutrition, lifestyle factors and the body's natural defence systems.

Skin symptoms such as eczema can be influenced by many factors, including skin barrier function, immune responses, digestion, nutrition and environmental triggers. A holistic approach looks beyond the skin to understand what may be contributing.

Children can have strong food preferences, changing appetites and periods of picky eating. I can help identify potential nutritional gaps and provide practical strategies to support your child's growth and wellbeing.

Every child is unique. A naturopathic consultation allows us to look at your child's health history, symptoms, diet, lifestyle and individual needs to create a personalised support plan.
Consultations are available in person in Hikurangi, Whangārei, or online throughout New Zealand.
Some families may be eligible to have the cost of naturopathic consultations covered through the Disability Allowance.
Eligibility and the amount of support available are determined by Work and Income (WINZ), and applications require supporting information from a GP or other appropriate health professional.
If you think this may be an option for your child, I’m happy to provide information about your consultation and fees to support your application.
